Japan sets world record for internet data speeds
A new world record has been set, reaching 402 terabits per second, for internet data transmission speeds. This speed was recorded by a team led by  Photonic Network Laboratory at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan. It was revealed to be about 1.6 million times faster than the average broadband speed in the United States.

The Japanese team used commercially available optical fiber and various amplification technologies to achieve their goal. The system utilizes all standard fiber transmission bands and has access to previously unused wavelengths. It was revealed that the project could transform future telecommunications networks.

According to the association, “The newly developed technology is expected to make a significant contribution to expanding the communication capacity of the optical communication infrastructure as future data services rapidly increase in demand.”
