Google takes on TikTok and Chat GPT to keep its search engine relevant

Google's search engine seeks to stay relevant by using the very tools that pose a threat—short forms of social media and AI chatbots—to keep the search engine relevant to the public. Newer platforms like ChatGPT and TikTok have become very popular in recent years, casting a shadow over the tech giant.
Google recently revealed that many young people prefer to use TikTok or Instagram to search for a place to eat lunch, so they no longer use Google or Google Maps. Social media platforms have an algorithm that adapts to the user, presenting information in a first-person perspective, and allowing users to discuss it in the comments section.
Elizabeth Reid, Google's vice president and head of search, revealed that users value lived experiences and a human perspective. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has become an obstacle for users to navigate Google search, as they prefer to ask their questions to the chatbot. For this reason, Google announced that it will soon integrate the ability to ask questions within its search engine with videos to obtain videos from the AI.
